Medium shot Keeshond

History

The Middenslag Keeshond originates from the Netherlands and originated in the 17th century. The breed was originally bred as a watchdog on Dutch boats and barges. The Keeshond is named after Kees the hunter, who was known for breeding these dogs. Later, the breed became popular as a companion dog in the Netherlands and abroad. During World War II, the breed was almost wiped out, but thanks to the efforts of a few dedicated breeders, the breed survived.

Character

The Medium Keeshond is an intelligent, alert and playful breed. They have a natural instinct to warn of danger, making them good watchdogs. These dogs are also very affectionate and loyal to their family. They can be a little reserved around strangers at times, but with proper socialization they can get along well with other people and animals. Keeshonden are active by nature and need plenty of exercise to stay healthy and happy.

Health

The Keeshond is generally in good health and does not have any specific health problems that are common in the breed. However, as with all dog breeds, they can be prone to certain diseases and conditions. It's important to have your Keeshond checked by a vet regularly and to make sure they are on a well-balanced diet and get plenty of exercise.

Care

The Medium Keeshond has a dense, double coat that needs regular brushing to prevent tangles and excess fur. It's important to brush your Keeshond's coat from a young age to get them used to the procedure. Keeshonden should also be bathed regularly and have their nails trimmed. Because these dogs are active, they should also be walked regularly to prevent them from exhibiting unwanted behavior.
