Lucerne Laufhund

History

The Luzerner Laufhund is an ancient Swiss dog breed that was originally bred to hunt deer and wild boar in the mountains surrounding the city of Lucerne. The breed has been known since the 16th century and is considered one of the oldest in Switzerland. The dogs were bred by local farmers and hunters to aid in hunting and guarding the land. Over the years they have become more and more appreciated for their excellent nose and their determination.

Character

The Luzerner Laufhund is a confident and intelligent dog with a strong character. They are very affectionate and loyal to their owners, but can also be stubborn and need a lot of exercise to stay happy. This breed is watchful by nature and can be boisterous at times, but with proper training and socialization, this behavior can be controlled. In general, they are great family dogs that get along well with children and other pets.

Health

The Luzerner Laufhund is generally a healthy breed, but they are prone to certain health problems such as hip dysplasia and eye problems. It's important to have your dog checked by a vet regularly and to make sure they are fed a balanced diet and get plenty of exercise to stay healthy.

Care

The Luzerner Laufhund has a short, dense coat that does not require much grooming. However, it is important to brush their coat regularly to remove loose hair and keep their skin and coat healthy. They also need a lot of exercise so be sure to walk and run your dog daily. Training and socialization are also important for this breed to ensure they display good behavior in the home and in public.
