Bavarian Mountain Hound

History

The Bavarian Mountain Hound originated in the Bavaria region of southern Germany. The breed was developed for hunting big game, such as deer and boar, in the mountains and forests of the region. The dogs were bred to be able to hunt for long periods of time and follow tracks in difficult terrain. Over the years, the breed has built a strong reputation as an excellent hunting dog.

Character

The Bavarian Mountain Hound is known for its courage and determination. They are hard workers and have a strong work ethic. This breed is very energetic and requires daily exercise. They are also good companion dogs that are loyal to their owner and friendly with children and other pets. The breed has a high hunting instinct and can therefore be somewhat reserved with strangers.

Health

In general, Bavarian Mountain Scenthounds are healthy dogs. However, they have an increased risk of hip dysplasia, a condition in which the hip joints are not developed properly and can cause pain and arthritis. It is important to ensure that parent dogs have been tested for hip dysplasia before purchasing a puppy. It is also important to regularly check and clean the dog's ears and teeth.

Care

Bavarian Mountain Scents have a dense, double coat that requires regular brushing to prevent tangles and felt. They have high energy and as such need plenty of exercise including walks and playing in the yard. It is important to challenge the dog mentally and physically to prevent boredom. Because the breed is a hunting dog by origin, they must be trained to obey and control their hunting instincts.
